'Zip Coon,' or 'Old Zip Coon,' was written sometime before 1827. Between 1827 and 1834, there were at least 4 versions of the song published. Several folks claimed to have written it but the true composer will probably never be known. The tune itself is better known today as 'Turkey In The Straw.' I mean to offend no one by posting this. It portrays American life and music in the 19th century.
